From the seed of an idea to a our environment

Utilizing nature's ability to shapeflourishing reality

Floating Garden is a plant-powered, sustainable, and cost-effective solution to restore water bodies in India and around the world.

Our decade-long commitment to water water restoration

India is facing a clean water crisis. Our natural water bodies no longer have clean water that is fit for use and consumption. Potable water in urban and rural areas is becoming scarce, a situation that has severe implications for human and environmental health.
At Floating Garden, we are committed to restoring health to our water bodies so that people have access to the water they need. Clean, healthy water is essential for human wellbeing, economic stability, ecological integrity, and our continued cultural heritage. We have been innovating sustainable nature-based water restoration solutions since 2014. Our decade-long efforts in reviving natural and man-made water bodies have shown significant results.

Founders’ story innovation

A homegrown idea
Varun Kulkarni and Naveen Doddamani, both civil engineers with a shared passion for environmental sustainability, visited their hometown in the summer of 2014. In their lush green village, they noticed something that piqued their curiosity. Wastewater generated by the households in the village was directed through a dense patch of green plants.
When they asked about it, Varun’s grandmother explained that these plants had naturally purified the water for generations. This process of filtration, where plants removed impurities, sparked an idea to explore how this nature-based solution could be applied on a larger scale.
A series of experiments
Inspired by the events in their hometown, the duo embarked on a venture, taking this nature-based solution to creating a sustainable water purifying solution. The simplicity and effectiveness of this natural system seemed like the perfect solution to the growing water pollution problem in urban areas. They began innovating and experimenting with pipes, bamboo, and other natural materials to create an effective structure for Floating Garden. With this, their series of experiments began.
Arriving at a modular design
After a series of failed experiments, they realised they needed a scalable and robust solution. Through intensive R&D, they arrived at a modular design solution that could handle the weight of the plants and allow for easy mobility. This easy-to-assemble structure could withstand the weight of the plants while staying afloat with ease.
Launching Floating Garden
Varun and Naveen were finally ready to launch Floating Garden. They had a working prototype, proven results, and a lot of learning from their previous failures. Their modular product, Floating Gardens, could be deployed in lakes, rivers, ponds, and other water bodies to reduce water pollution and restore ecological balance.
The product was embraced as a viable and sustainable solution by environmentalists, city planners, and local communities. Today, Floating Garden contributes to restoring and purifying water bodies in rural and urban areas.
Modular floating gardens have been deployed in numerous polluted water bodies across the country, transforming them into thriving ecosystems. However, Varun and Naveen continue to innovate, exploring new materials and plant species to enhance the effectiveness of their solutions.

Effective Features ofvolunteering program

Make a Real Impact

Get hands-on with environmental action. Your participation in our volunteer programs gets you directly involved in improving the health of local water bodies. Help improve water quality and leave the world a better place.

Do Good for the Environment

Give your employees the opportunity to step out of their daily routines and engage in purposeful nature-friendly activities. Volunteering is a great way to boost employee morale and strengthen teams of all sizes. Further, you can carve a reputation of being a socially responsible organisation. It’s a win-win.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Lakes and wetlands can help to mitigate flooding by absorbing excess water during heavy rainfall events and slowly releasing it over time.

Habitat creation

These gardens provide habitats for aquatic organisms, promoting biodiversity and aiding in pollutant breakdown
