Doddathoguru Lake Project

Lakes in Bangalore, once in abundance, are now a luxury. Doddathoguru Lake in Electronic City is one of the large water bodies in the locality, adding a touch of natural beauty to the heavily trafficked corridors. Unfortunately, instead of clean and clear waters, the lake is now filled with pollutants that diminish its former beauty.

The problem

The lake is a dumping ground for garbage. Its water is contaminated with toxic chemicals and solid waste, rendering it uninhabitable for aquatic life. Water hyacinths invade the water, further depleting it of oxygen. Making this problem worse, 5–6 million litres of sewage flow into the lake daily.

Our natural solution

Doddathoguru Lake needed an eco-friendly solution. To prevent further pollution and purify the lake water, Floating Gardens were installed across its expanse. The daily influx of sewage was directed through the Floating Gardens to purify the water as it entered the lake. The plant roots act as biofilters, absorbing the nutrients and contaminants from the water and making it crystal clear as it passes through.

Breathing new life into Doddathoguru Lake

Floating Gardens helped purify water, restoring it to its natural state. Pollutants were removed from the water, allowing a healthy ecosystem to flourish. The eco-friendly solution addressed the sewage influx and water hyacinth infestation thoroughly. Various district bodies across the country appreciated the project’s progress. This use of Floating Gardens served as an exemplary model for others to follow.
