Lakes breathe life into cities, fostering biodiversity and creating serene spaces for relaxation. Kammasandra Lake in Electronic City is one such lake in Bengaluru, where residents used to visit for evening walks while migratory birds flocked around, offering rare bird sightings in a cluttered cityscape.
Area :
6,500 sq. ft
Location :
Kammasandra Lake, Electronics City, Bengaluru
The problem
Rapid urbanisation in the area has transformed the lake from a source of life to a sewage dumping ground. Today, the lake is smaller than its initial size due to encroachment and repeated garbage disposal. Sewage from the residential and commercial highrises surrounding the lake flows right into it, polluting it further.
Our natural solution
The local authorities came to us to help restore the lake to its former pristine state. To achieve this, we hatched a three-step plan involving wastewater diversion, Floating Garden installation, and trash barrier attachment. The wastewater diversion helped direct sewage water out of Kammasandra Lake and into smaller ponds. To purify the lake water naturally, 6,500 sq. ft. of Floating Gardens were installed on its surface. These acted as biofilters, removing contaminants from the water. Trash barriers were set up to collect all solid waste and prevent it from adding to the pollution in the lake.
Saving Kammasandra Lake from sewage setbacks
Our natural interventions of wastewater diversion, Floating Garden installation, and trash barriers helped restore water wellness in Kammasandra Lake. The Kammasandra Lake Rejuvenation Process improved not only the water quality but also environmental quality around the lake. By bringing back the hygiene of the lake, we assisted in creating a space that locals could enjoy recreationally.
