The Problem
Despite being a popular spot for runners and walkers, this lake is polluted. There is a steady stream of sewage entering the lake every day. We were approached with the objective of treating 1 MLD (million litres of day) of sewage. Our Floating Gardens offered a sustainable, natural, and eco-friendly way of doing this.
Our natural solution
Considering the extent of pollution in Yediyur Lake, we developed a 4-pronged approach to treating it. Floating Gardens were installed on the surface to reduce the nutrient level in the water. The roots of the plants acted as biofilters that naturally treated the sewage-infested water. Apart from Floating Garden, we also used JMS Ecocords and JMS Bioenzymes to accelerate the process. JMS Ecocords and JMS Bioenzymes enhanced nutrient removal, working underwater to purify it. We also installed special mechanical aerators to increase the oxygen levels and reduce sludge in the water.
Reducing nutrient levels naturally at Yediyur Lake
The Yediyur Lake Sewage Treatment Project successfully achieved the National Green Tribunal discharge standards for treated water. Using a mix of Floating Gardens, Ecocords, Bioenzymes and special mechanical aerators we devised a way to treat large volumes of sewage inflow everyday. Using this innovative approach we were able to successfully enhance water quality at Yediyur Lake.
